Yarra Valley Wine Tour Prices

Thirty-nine tours, and the headline prices run from $29 to $1,653. That range is not a market failing to settle on a price — it is several different products sold under one search term. Here is what each band actually is.

The five bands

$29, $47 and $79 — a tasting, not a tour. Three cellar-door experiences bookable directly: an hour of wine and cider at Punt Road in Lilydale, ninety minutes of food and wine at Punt Road in Yarra Glen, and two hours of cheese and wine blending at Dixons Creek. $71 to $99 — the standard day from Melbourne. Nine tours sit here and it is where the region’s value is. City pickup, three cellar doors with tastings included, and usually a chocolate, gin or fruit stop. Lunch is bought at the table. The two most-reviewed tours in the valley are both $93.

$125 to $150 — lunch, or a theme. Either the meal is inside the price or you are buying a specific itinerary: sparkling at Chandon, kangaroos at dusk, redwoods, a fourth cellar door. Reasonable if the theme is why you came.

$179 to $253 — the long or wine-focused day. Ten hours, four vineyards, hotel pickup, an à la carte lunch. The $243 Yering Station tour is the strongest listing in the region on rating and volume together, at 5.0 from 150 reviews.

$455 and up — private, priced for the vehicle. Thirteen listings, six different group sizes, and per-head figures from about $90 to about $562. Nothing here is comparable until you divide — the maths is on private Yarra Valley wine tours.

Three per-person listings sit outside these bands entirely: a $437 luxury day, a $795 private day charged per head, and a $1,288 helicopter transfer with wine tasting and lunch. Each has a single review, so there is nothing useful to say about them beyond the price.

The cheapest full day, in detail

$71 buys more than the number suggests: three wineries with all tastings included, a guided chocolate tasting, a stop at a strawberry farm, a scenic drive with kangaroo and wildlife sightings, and a bottle of wine per full-paying adult to take home. Eight hours, 4.7 from 173 reviews.

Two conditions. It needs four people booked for the tour to run, and it does not take under-14s. The gin tasting at Rochford is $25 a head extra and lunch is not included.

That is the honest floor of this market. Below $71 there is no tour with transport, only tastings you have to reach yourself.

The two extras that move the real total

Lunch. Twelve tours include it and fourteen state in writing that they do not. One operator puts its lunch stop at roughly A$25 to A$35 a head; a winery restaurant with a view runs higher, and several tours note a weekend surcharge. Spirits. Gin appears in a lot of titles and is included on very few tours. On the $71 tour it is $25 extra at Rochford; on the flagship it is a paid upgrade at St Huberts; on the $129 tour you swap a winery for it. Only one tour, at $93, includes a full gin paddle at the distillery — the detail is on wine, gin and chocolate tours.

Tasting fees themselves are usually covered on the per-person tours. On private listings they often are not, which is the largest hidden variable on this page.

Does paying more get you better wine?

Not reliably, and the data is fairly clear about it. The two most-reviewed tours in the region are both $93. The cheapest full day at $71 holds 4.7 from 173 reviews. Meanwhile a $437 tour sits at 1.0 from its single review, and a $150 tour at 2.0.

What more money does buy, consistently, is time and exclusivity: a fourth cellar door, a smaller vehicle, hotel collection, a longer day, a meal you did not have to think about. Wine quality is not the axis price moves along here.

Currency, and one caveat

Every figure on this site is the US dollar price GetYourGuide quotes at checkout, because that is what you will actually be charged through the booking. Operators quoting locally advertise in Australian dollars, so a tour you see listed at A$105 elsewhere is not necessarily cheaper than the $71 here — check the currency before comparing.
