How the Day Runs
Two wineries, a distillery, a chocolate room, and a playlist you control.
Pick Up in Central Melbourne
Nearly every tour leaves from one fixed city point between 8.30 and 9.30am, most from Flinders Street or Federation Square and a few with hotel pickup. Departures are punctual to the minute; several operators state in writing that they will not wait.
One Hour Northeast
The valley starts about 50 km out, through Warrandyte or Lilydale. This leg is the reason the tour exists: the cellar doors sit up to 15 km apart on country roads, and no useful public transport joins them.
Three to Five Stops, Not All of Them Wine
A standard day is two or three cellar doors plus something else - the Yarra Valley Chocolaterie, Four Pillars gin in Healesville, a wildlife park. Read the itinerary: 22 of the 39 tours on this site bundle a non-wine venue.
Back in the City by Early Evening
Set down in the CBD between 5 and 6.30pm on a full day, earlier on a half day. Nobody in your group has had to stay under Victoria's 0.05 limit, which is the other half of what the ticket buys.

Yarra Valley Wine, Gin and Chocolate Tours Compared
Chocolate is nearly always included. Gin nearly never is — unless the tour goes to the distillery rather than mentioning it.
The Yarra Valley Chocolaterie is the most-visited venue in the region — seventeen of the thirty-nine tours here stop there, which is more than any winery. Gin is a different story. Plenty of listings put the word in the title; only three actually take you to the Four Pillars distillery in Healesville, and on most of the rest the gin is a paid upgrade you buy at a cellar door.
That distinction is worth about $25 and a good deal of disappointment.
Where the gin actually is
On the valley’s most-reviewed tour, the gin and whisky tasting happens at St Huberts and the listing is explicit that it costs extra. On the $71 tour, the gin is at Rochford Wines and priced at $25 a head on top of the ticket. On the $129 tour, you may swap the fourth winery for a Four Pillars flight — an either-or, not an addition.
Only the $93 Wine, Gin, Beer, Cider and Chocolate tour includes a proper gin paddle: four gins with mixer, at the distillery, inside the price. It is also the only tour here that gives chocolate a private room rather than a shop counter — twenty-five minutes, ten to twelve chocolates, a dedicated space.
The trade is cellar doors. That tour visits two wineries, Yering Farm and Tokar Estate, against three or four on the wine-focused days. You are buying a distillery and a chocolate room with the time a third winery would have taken.
The chocolate is nearly always included
Unlike gin, the Chocolaterie stop is generally inside the ticket. The flagship includes a guided tasting of ten chocolates; the $71 tour includes a guided chocolate tasting plus a strawberry farm; the $86 tour includes chocolate and cheese and fruit.
The Chocolaterie itself is free to enter and sells at a counter, so a “visit” and a “guided tasting” are not the same thing. Where the listing says guided or private, someone is walking you through it. Where it just names the venue, you are being given shopping time.
If you want gin without giving up wine
Two routes.
Book the $129 tour and take the Four Pillars option instead of the fourth winery: you still get three cellar doors, a two-course lunch with a glass of wine, and a gin flight. Adults only, $129, 353 reviews at 4.9.
Or book a wine-focused day and pay the upgrade. The flagship at $93 plus a gin tasting at St Huberts lands close to the same money and keeps three cellar doors plus the Chocolaterie. Which is better depends on whether you would rather taste gin at a distillery or at a winery’s bar.
Beer, cider and whisky, briefly
The same catalogue has a tour swapping the fourth winery for Watts River Brewery, available Thursday to Monday only. The $93 gin tour includes cider alongside beer and gin. Whisky appears on the flagship as part of the same paid upgrade as the gin.
None of these is a large part of the day. If beer or cider is the actual reason you are going, read the itinerary closely rather than the title — one of these tours has four non-wine words in its name and still spends most of the day at two wineries.
Is it still a wine tour?
Honestly, at two cellar doors, it is a tasting day with wine in it. That is not a complaint — it holds 4.9 from 784 reviews, the second-largest body of feedback in the region, and people plainly love it.
But if someone in your group came for the Chardonnay, look at Yarra Valley winery tours and tastings first and make the choice deliberately.
Check availability — free cancellation runs to 24 hours before departure.

What Gin & Chocolate Guests Say
Ratings and review counts are the tour operators' live figures on GetYourGuide and may shift slightly day to day.
"Awesome, Awesome, Awesome!!! The vineyards we visited were absolutely beautiful and their wines spectacular. Our driver, Richard made the day long trip fly by and his wine knowledge was a welcomed plus. Great tour all around."
"Andrew is a great communicator and sent all the details we needed to know to find the pick up spot and bus the day before. Richard was our driver and he was excellent, very pleasant and took great care of us throughout the day! Bus can get a bit cramped with all the wine purchases but otherwise good! First time doing a chocolate tasting and loved it!"

"Peter was great! He was great energy and very knowledgeable about the history about Melbourne. We had a great day"
"Matt is amazing g Matt is amazing. he is knowledgeable and super friendly. I would highly recommend him. 6 stars."
"fantastic day touring Yarra Valley. really laid back & relaxed, great energy, Andrew was a great tour guide and would 100% recommend"
"Awesome and relaxed trip out to the Yarra Valley with Andrew for wine, cider, gin, and chocolate. Excellent communication from Andrew before and the on day of due to a mechanical issue with the bus that delayed our start. Amazingly, we didn't miss a single stop, nor did anything feel rushed despite the delay. A lot of planning has gone into the day which is awesome and allows each person to make the day their own (gin vs wine, lunch location, wine vs chocolate). 100% would do this trip again!"

"Todd our driver was great, very friendly and a lovely host. The vineyards stops were beautiful and it was a great time. We got a shared playlist where everyone could add their songs in which made the bus ride enjoyable too. Thank you!"

Wine, Gin & Chocolate Tours — Questions
Where the gin actually is, what the chocolate stop involves, and what costs extra.
Only one includes a proper gin paddle inside the price: the $93 Wine, Gin, Beer, Cider and Chocolate tour, which pours four gins with mixer at the Four Pillars distillery in Healesville. On most other tours gin is a paid upgrade bought at a cellar door, or an either-or swap for a winery.
On the $71 tour it is $25 a head at Rochford Wines. On the valley s most-reviewed tour, the gin and whisky tasting at St Huberts is described in the listing as available for a small fee. On the $129 tour you do not pay extra - you swap the fourth winery for Four Pillars instead.
Three of the thirty-nine do. Four Pillars is in Healesville, and being on the itinerary is different from a listing simply mentioning gin - many tours name gin in the title while pouring it at a winery bar rather than at the distillery.
Usually yes, and it is the single most-visited venue in the region, appearing on seventeen of the thirty-nine itineraries here. What varies is whether you get a guided tasting or shopping time. The Chocolaterie is free to enter and sells at a counter, so where a listing says guided or private, someone is walking you through it.
Two - Yering Farm Wines and Tokar Estate - against three or four on the wine-focused days. You are buying a distillery and a private chocolate room with the time a third winery would have taken. It is a tasting day with wine in it rather than a wine tour, and the itinerary says so plainly.
Twenty-five minutes in a dedicated space with ten to twelve chocolates, rather than a counter in the shop. It is included on the $93 Wine, Gin, Beer, Cider and Chocolate tour and it is the most substantial chocolate stop in the catalogue.
Book a wine-focused day and pay the upgrade. The $93 flagship plus a gin tasting at St Huberts lands close to the same money and keeps three cellar doors plus the Chocolaterie. Whether that beats a distillery visit depends on whether you want to taste gin where it is made.
Yes. The $93 gin tour includes cider and beer alongside the gin. The $129 tour can swap its fourth winery for Watts River Brewery, available Thursday to Monday only. Whisky appears on the flagship as part of the same paid upgrade as the gin.
Better than most. With a chocolate room, a cider and beer stop and only two wineries, there is more for a non-drinker to do than on a four-cellar-door day. The minimum age is 6, and children pay full adult price on the public group tours.
They are close: both $93, both 4.9, with 784 and 1,464 reviews. The flagship gives you three cellar doors, a chocolate tasting and a paid gin option. The gin tour gives you two cellar doors, an included gin paddle at the distillery and a private chocolate room. Choose on whether the third winery or the distillery matters more.
