Leaving Federation Square in the late morning gives you the first half of the day in Melbourne, and it puts the final stop at golden hour, when the kangaroos come out to feed. Domaine Chandon is the centrepiece. It is Moet & Chandon's Australian operation at Coldstream, and the stop gives you a sparkling tasting with time to buy lunch overlooking the vineyard. Yering Station follows for still wine -- the site where Victoria's first vines were planted in 1838.
Between them sit a berry farm, the Coldstream dairy for a generous cheese tasting, and the Yarra Valley Chocolaterie. It is a food-and-wine day rather than a four-cellar-door day, and at eleven people in a minivan it feels nothing like a coach tour.
Lunch is not included. You buy it at Chandon or at another stop, and the operator notes that dietary options can be limited at the midday venue, so plan around that if it matters. Children from three are welcome, though Australian licensing means only guests aged 18 and over may drink.

Our guide was funny ,very knowledgeable of the area and made everyone feel welcome and part of the tour. Strawberry tasting was unnecessary as it was out of season so had strawberries from outside the Yarra Valley. Rest of tour was excellent and the kangaroos at twilight was the perfect finish to the day.
